My Work at Debate Society

Introduction

Debate Society is a student service group at CIS that aims to help foster critical thinking, global awareness, and public speaking skills in Hong Kong. It organises charity debate events, leads a beginner debate club at CIS, and organises debate classes for underprivileged children at community centres. I joined the Debate Society in November, wanting to help spread the joy of debate to more people after being deeply affected by the activity.

Some of my contributions

1 / Website design for a speech competition

I designed the website for the 2026 Hong Kong Sustainable Development Goals Speech Tournament in January, along with another member. I mainly updated the site as all of the details were being finalized. I also suggested adding and helped build an FAQ section, as I found that particularly helpful when attending other tournaments in the past.

2 / Helping with the organisation of a speech competition

In 2026, we aim to digitalize classes and host online debates that are open to anyone in different languages in the future! Of course, we will still be hosting physical in person debate events, seminars, and tournaments!

Look out for any new information here!

3 / [Upcoming Events] Assisted in teaching a debate class at a community centre

We are providing debate and critical thinking classes to any students interested! Any tuition from the program will be donated to the Crossroads Foundation in Hong Kong locally. We want to expand our knowledge and popularize a range of different but stimulating topics for students without means to participant in debate activities!
